Komets spread wealth in victory

Five goals from five players lifted the Komets to a 5-3 victory at Bloomington on Sunday.

The Komets (31-16-3) got goals from Jean-Michel Rizk, Brett Smith and Kaleigh Schrock to grab a 3-1 lead after the first period, then Tom Mele and Artem Podshendyalov hammered in second-period goals.

Rizk’s goal 19 seconds into the game was matched by Bloomington’s Doug Krantz at 4:28, but Smith scored at 14:45 and Schrock added another at 15:55.

The teams traded scores in the second, with Bloomington (18-26-6) scoring to get within 3-2, but Mele scored at 5:24. Podshendyalov’s goal with 1:45 remaining gave the Komets the two-goal cushion.

Komets goalie Gerry Festa stopped all eight shots in the third period and had 31 saves.

The Komets played without Colin Chaulk (concussion), Nick Boucher (suspension) and Bryant Molle (suspension).
