Cheers & jeers

CHEERS to the young couple who took care of the check on a recent Saturday evening when we decided to have an early dinner at our local Applebee’s. We don’t know who you are, but we hope you will read this and know how grateful we are. CLAY and HAZEL CARTER Huntington

JEERS to the thief – a male student at Leo High School – who on Jan. 24 took my granddaughter’s backpack from her locker, went into the men’s restroom and stole her very expensive cellphone. He left the rest of the contents (including her new cellphone case) all over the floor. Unfortunately, the school only has cameras on the first floor and not the second floor where this criminal was able to go undetected and is still able to steal from other students.

CAROLE WALCUTT Churubusco

CHEERS to Century 21 Real Estate, O’Daniel Mazda, Aesthetic Plant Specialist, The Fort Wayne Christmas Bureau, Girl Scouts Service Unit 218 and their families, Huntertown United Methodist Church, Barbara’s New Beginnings, Brown Mackie College, and History Center Christmas Trees from the Women’s Bureau for all their support during the holiday season.

AURORA WHITE Women’s Bureau Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Charles from Yellow Taxi. My wife left her purse and iPhone in his cab. He searched us out the next day when he found it and even offered to deliver it to us. Nothing was missing.

KEVIN MILLS New Haven

CHEERS to the kind lady who paid for our french fries at Hall’s Restaurant across from Parkview Hospital on Jan. 28.

STEPHANIE NEWELL and

OLIVIA RAY Sixth graders at St. Jude

CHEERS to Senate President Pro-Tem David Long for his display of common sense and courage in killing the captive deer-hunting bill in the General Assembly. And JEERS to the spineless DNR for not taking a stand against this proposal. There has to be a better way to boost Indiana’s economy than to promote this barbaric practice.

RICHARD W. SHEPHERD South Whitley

CHEERS to the two young gentlemen who appeared within seconds and asked whether I needed help when my car ran out of gas Jan. 19 between Riviera Plaza and St. Joe Road. They pushed my car to the gas station with no gloves on; the temperature was 10 degrees. Another passerby stopped to help them. They did not want anything in return.

DEBI DICE Fort Wayne

CHEERS to the unknown, mysterious, generous person who paid my bill Jan. 28 at the Triangle Park Restaurant I was surprised when the waitress told me that someone had. When I scanned the room, I realized that they probably had picked us because I was with the most beautiful woman in the restaurant.

GEORGE BLOSSOM Fort Wayne

CHEERS to the gentleman in the Black Diamond security jacket, earring and black truck who stopped at Ash Bourne Drive and Autumn Ridge Lane and helped my husband get back on his feet after falling on the icy sidewalk.
