Winners

Indianapolis: With more than a little cooperation from the weather, the Circle City wins rave reviews for its first hosting of a Super Bowl and all accompanying festivities. The Giants and the Pats help by giving fans a cliffhanger.

Rick Santorum: From down and seemingly out, GOP presidential hopeful scores caucus victories in Minnesota and Colorado and nonbinding primary in Missouri.

Bill O’Reilly: The Fox News commentator refuses to join other conservatives in bashing the Clint Eastwood “Halftime in America” commercial that debuted during the Super Bowl, saying: “I believe Mr. Eastwood was doing a pro-American commercial, not a pro-Obama spot.”

Allman Brothers: Three members of the storied southern rock band – Gregg Allman, Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes – were each nominated for best blues album for their solo work.

Tossups

Richard Lugar: The senator’s lack of a true residence in Indiana is legal – but it looks bad in an election year, particularly after disclosures that taxpayers paid for his hotel rooms when he visited the Hoosier state.

Losers

Roland Martin: CNN analyst is suspended for posting anti-gay comments on Twitter during Super Bowl.

VA: The Veterans Administration flip-flops again about its local facilities, saying that rather than build a new outpatient clinic as previously announced, it will find an existing building to house it.

Milestones

New Madrid earthquakes: An earthquake preparedness exercise this week coincided with the 200th anniversary of the fourth earthquake in eight weeks near the Missouri town. That quake formed Reelfoot Lake and temporarily caused the Mississippi River to flow backward.

“NCIS”: The CBS crime drama starring Mark Harmon airs its 200th episode and climbs to the top of the ratings with 20 million weekly viewers. Meanwhile …

“House”: Actor-producer Hugh Laurie calls it quits, saying this season – the Fox show’s eighth – is its last.
