With Fleury back in net, Penguins best Bruins

– Marc Andre-Fleury hardly looked like a goalie who had just finished a highly intense third period.

Fleury, back in net after getting a night off, made 28 saves and Evgeni Malkin scored a power-play goal that lifted the Pittsburgh Penguins over the Boston Bruins 2-1 Saturday for their ninth win in 10 games.

“Just came off a five-day break,” Fleury said. “It was nice to get back.”

Matt Cooke had the other goal for the Penguins, who rebounded from a 1-0 loss at Toronto on Wednesday that ended a season-high eight-game winning streak.

Until he got additional rest after the All-Star break, Fleury had played in 23 straight game. The break may’ve been what he needed after allowing four goals twice in four games.

“Marc was exceptional,” Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. “He was able to control the rebounds and limit the opportunities they had.”

The only goal the Bruins got past him was a shot he couldn’t see.

Joe Corvo scored Boston’s goal, and Tim Thomas stopped 26 shots. The Bruins hadn’t lost consecutive games since early December and had not dropped two in a row at home since late October.

CANUCKS 3, AVALANCHE 2, SO: In Denver, Kevin Bieksa tied the game with 34.1 seconds remaining in regulation and Mason Raymond scored the lone goal in the shootout as Vancouver rallied for a win over struggling Colorado.

Raymond sent the puck through the pads of Jean-Sebastien Giguere and Roberto Luongo stopped all three shots he faced for Vancouver, which ended the Avalanche’s 10-game shootout streak.

CAPITALS 3, CANADIENS 0: In Montreal, Tomas Vokoun made 30 saves for his third shutout of the season and Alexander Semin scored on the second of Washington’s two penalty shots in the Capitals’ win over Montreal.

DEVILS 6, FLYERS 4: In Philadelphia, Kurtis Foster scored a pair of power-play goals, and New Jersey held on against Philadelphia.

Ilya Kovalchuk, Dainius Zubrus, Zach Parise and Alexei Ponikarovsky also had goals for the Devils, who have won three in a row.

HURRICANES 2, KINGS 1: In Raleigh, N.C., Jeff Skinner scored 3:02 into the third period to lift Carolina past Los Angeles.

Jiri Tlutsy also scored and Cam Ward made 24 saves for the Hurricanes, who are 8-2-1 in their last 11 home games.

LIGHTNING 6, PANTHERS 3: In Tampa, Fla., Martin St. Louis scored three times in his 900th NHL game, Steven Stamkos added his league-leading 34th goal and Tampa Bay beat Florida.

SABRES 4, ISLANDERS 3, SO: In Uniondale, N.Y., Brad Boyes and Jason Pominville scored shootout goals, and Buffalo rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to beat the New York.

Buffalo’s Paul Gaustad tied it 3-all midway through the third period to send the game to overtime.

MAPLE LEAFS 5, SENATORS 0: In Ottawa, James Reimer posted his second straight shutout, and Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak each had three points to lead Toronto to a rout of Ottawa.
