Doing a 180Flooding has become an annual rite of spring around these parts. It seems like every year at least part of our area is dealing with floodwaters. This year things are very different.

Unusual numbers

Six. That’s the number of days we have already hit 50 degrees this year.

Six times!

Let’s put that in perspective. Last year (not an unusually cold winter), we hit 50 for the second time on Feb. 17.

January ended up being about five degrees above normal, and so far (it’s early, I know), February is about 15 degrees above normal.

Perhaps more unbelievable: There is no sign of an arctic blast in our near future. Surely we will have to pay a price for this mild run at some point, right? Well, don’t hold your breath.

Weather wise: Another really weird thing about this winter has been the snowfall.

We’ve actually had 25.6 inches of snow, but since most of it has melted almost immediately, it hasn’t seemed like a snowy winter.
