CHEERS to everyone who helped make our 150 bags for SCAN mission a huge success. We received crayons, markers, construction paper, coloring books, games and monetary donations to provide 150 families the materials to work with during their visits at SCAN. This is part of the Joan Sherman Program for Resilient Children. The goal is to help parents build skills in their children that will help them cope successfully with their history of abuse and neglect, as well as other risk factors, and ultimately achieve success in life.

CHEERS to the kind lady who on Jan. 16 at Walgreen’s in Waynedale spotted my billfold and turned it in at the front counter. I didn’t have a lot of money in it, but many other valuable items. I was distracted by a phone call.

PENNY BRYAN Fort Wayne

CHEERS to the New Haven police officer and others who came to our rescue the afternoon of Jan. 15. My son and I were heading home on Landin Road. The van slowed to 15 then 10 mph then stopped. When I pulled into an addition to get out of the way, the officer came to check on us. He saw the wheelchair on the ramp in the back and knew I needed help. He called a towing service while I called a friend to pick us up. The officer stayed with us the whole time, and the young man from the towing service followed us home so my son would have his electric wheelchair at home.

JUNE VanTILBURG New Haven

CHEERS to Adam Dunlap for being aware and noticing a house fire. After calling the fire department, he went door to door notifying neighbors. Because of him, my neighborhood was saved from what could have been a disaster.

JOAN MORGAN Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Indiana Michigan Power for its commitment to community service and support. For many years, Indiana Michigan Power has supported Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home’s community activities and provided volunteers and additional assistance in support of our mission to provide compassionate end-of-life care to patients and families. This company is a terrific corporate partner to many non-profits in our area.

JEERS to the thief who stole grocery bags out of my cart when Aldi on Fernhill Avenue lost power. I started to put my groceries back. An employee said leave your cart and we will put everything back. The bags were under the groceries. When I realized I had left them, I called Aldi and they said they would keep them for me. You know they are not yours.

ROY CHAPMAN Fort Wayne

CHEERS to Peerless Cleaners’ downtown location. I was picking up my dry cleaning recently when the manager called the counter. From his office window he could see that one of my tires was severely low on air. He came out, and with an air hose extension from the garage, filled my tire.
