When IPFW's women's team fell to IUPUI 76-62 on Saturday in Indianapolis, the loss dropped the Mastodons further behind the Jaguars and deeper into ninth place in the Summit League standings with a 4-8 conference record.
Normally, ninth place is not good, considering that to qualify for the postseason tournament, a team must finish in the top eight.
But because South Dakota, which went into Saturday's games tied for third, is still in its transition year of joining the league and therefore is not eligible to play in the tournament, IPFW essentially has the No. 8 spot.
And thank goodness for last place Southern Utah, which owns one victory in the league.
IPFW got 14 points from Stephanie Rosado on Saturday and 12 from Erin Murphy. It was the first time in six games that IUPUI has beaten the Mastodons.
