Indiana Planned Parenthood ‘grateful’ for Komen decision

Cockrum

Statement issued Friday by Betty Cockrum, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Indiana:

“Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) is enormously grateful that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation has clarified its grant-making criteria, allowing Komen to continue partnering with Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country in providing lifesaving breast cancer screenings.

While Planned Parenthood does not currently receive direct funding from Komen, PPIN is a significant provider of clinical breast exams and education. We work every day to ensure that our patients receive the information and care they need to stay healthy.

Last year alone, PPIN provided more than 14,000 breast exams and thousands of referrals for additional care and testing across the state. We are committed to ensuring that women have the ability to get the preventive care and services they need at our 28 health centers across the state.

What these past few days have demonstrated is that Hoosiers and all Americans are deeply invested in the fight against cancer. They want to see organizations that are committed to fighting cancer and improving women’s health working together, without letting politics interfere.

Planned Parenthood will continue to focus on prevention and we hope others will join us in our efforts to promote women’s health and improve quality of life for all Hoosiers. We are grateful for the support we have been receiving from women and men across the state and beyond, and we are appreciative of Komen’s decision today.”
