Irish crush Scarlet Knights, run streak to 19

– Devereaux Peters has stepped her game up the last week, helping Notre Dame run over its opponents.

Peters had 10 points and a career-high 17 rebounds to lead second-ranked Notre Dame to a 71-41 victory over No. 13 Rutgers on Tuesday night.

The fifth-year senior became the first Irish player to have three straight double-doubles since Jacqueline Batteast did it in the 2004 NCAA tournament. Peters can see the end of her run at Notre Dame in the offing.

“I’m realizing my time’s almost up,” Peters said. “I want to make the most of it. I’m a fifth year senior, I want to get our team winning and go as far as we can.”

The Irish lost only once this season, falling to No. 1 Baylor. They have won 19 straight games – the third-longest streak in school history.

Notre Dame (22-1, 9-0 Big East) completed a perfect January for the fifth time under coach Muffet McGraw and the first since 2001.

Monique Oliver scored 17 points to lead the Scarlet Knights (17-5, 6-3).

DEPAUL 86, No. 14 LOUISVILLE 61: In Chicago, Anna Martin scored 19 points to lead the Blue Demons (17-6, 5-4 Big East) past the Cardinals (17-5, 6-3), who had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Men

No. 1 KENTUCKY 69, TENNESSEE 44: In Lexington, Ky., freshman Anthony Davis had 18 points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots as the Wildcats (22-1, 8-0 SEC) extended their home winning streak to 48 games.

No. 5 NORTH CAROLINA 68, WAKE FOREST 53: In Winston-Salem, N.C., Tyler Zeller had 18 points and a career-best 18 rebounds to lead the Tar Heels (19-3, 6-1 ACC) past the Demon Deacons (11-11, 2-6), who shot just 30 percent.

ILLINOIS 42, No. 9 MICHIGAN ST: 41: In Champaign, Ill., Brandon Paul shook off a poor-shooting game to score 18 points, including two free throws with 45 seconds left for the Illini (16-6, 5-4 Big Ten).

Keith Appling missed a driving shot with 2 seconds left, the final chance for the Spartans (17-5, 6-3).

No. 15 MARQUETTE 66, SETON HALL 59: In Milwaukee, Jae Crowder had 20 points and 12 rebounds, helping the Golden Eagles (19-4, 8-2 Big East) rally from a sluggish first half against the Pirates (15-7, 4-6).

No. 16 VIRGINIA 65, CLEMSON 61: In Charlottesville, Va., Mike Scott scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds as the Cavaliers (18-3, 5-2 ACC) rallied and then hung on for the win against .the Tigers (11-10, 3-4).

No. 19 WISCONSIN 52, PENN STATE 46: In State College, Pa., Jordan Taylor scored 18 points, including a key three-pointer from the top of key with 1:44 left, to lift the Badgers (18-5, 7-3 Big Ten).

Tim Frazier led Penn State (10-13, 2-8) with 21 points.

ARKANSAS 82, No. 25 VANDERBILT 74: In Fayetteville, Ark., Ricky Scott scored 18 points and the Razorbacks (16-6, 4-3) equaled their SEC-best with nine three-pointers against the Commodores (16-6, 5-2).

SAINT FRANCIS 76, TAYLOR 73: In Upland, Saint Francis hit 67 percent of its field goals (27 of 56). The Cougars (17-8, 8-5 MCC) were led by Scott Kohne’s 25 points and 24 from Qadr Owens. Casey Coons had 24 points for Taylor (16-6, 5-8).

INDIANA WESLEYAN 80, HUNTINGTON 78: In Huntington, Jordan Weidner had 25 points to pace the Wildcats (16-9, 8-5 MCC) to the win. Caleb Kennedy led the Foresters (14-11, 6-7) with 26 points.
