County accepts credit cards for birth, death records

FORT WAYNE – People seeking birth and death certificates in Allen County will now be able to pay for them using a credit or debit card.

The Vital Records office of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health announced Wednesday it is working with GovPay to allow payments using major credit cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

Customers may also pay using cash or a money order, it said.

Copies of birth and death certificates in Allen County are available to eligible walk-in customers, by mail or online.

The cost of a birth certificate is $10 and a death certificates is $12. GovPay will charge a processing fee for credit card payments based on the amount of the transaction, but the minimum fee someone would pay is $1.50, the announcement said.

The Vital Records office is on the third floor of Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St. The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
