Komets win after blowing 3-goal lead

Frankie DeAngelis scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and the Komets held on for a wild 7-5 victory at Arizona on Friday.

The Komets led 4-1 after the first period. But Arizona tied the game at 5 on a goal by Tyler Butler at 1:21 of the third period.

DeAngelis put Fort Wayne back ahead with a goal at 2:48. Stephon Thorne added an empty-netter at 19:26.

Colin Chaulk, Chris Auger, Tom Mele and David Starenky scored in the first period for Fort Wayne.

Jamie Lovell scored in the second period to stretch the lead to 5-2.

Luke Erickson scored the next two goals to bring Arizona (12-22-7) within 5-4 after two periods. Butler tied the contest early in the third and DeAngelis responded moments later.

Nick Boucher made 25 saves for the Komets (25-12-2). Center Brett Smith, who missed five games because of a concussion, returned to action for Fort Wayne.

The teams meet again today at Arizona.
