Two people tried to rob a Fort Wayne bank Thursday morning, but they didnt get their hands on any cash, police said.
Police were called about 6:45 a.m. after a man approached an employee from behind in the parking lot of Grabill Bank at 5217 Merchandise Drive, near Lima Road and Interstate 69.
A weapon was not displayed, but the threat of a weapon was made, police said in a written statement.
Officer Raquel Foster, police spokeswoman, said the employee, a loan officer, was forced into the bank. He could not access cash for the robbers, and the tellers drawers were empty. So with no money readily available, the robbers fled on foot, she said.
The employee told police the man who forced him into the bank was wearing a hooded sweatshirt, stood 5-foot-9, was possibly Hispanic and had the accent of a native Spanish speaker. The employee heard but did not see the second robber, Foster said.
No injuries were reported. There were no customers.
