Crash on Ohio Turnpike spurs 4-mile backup

FREMONT, Ohio – A crash on the Ohio Turnpike has blocked the westbound lanes of the roadway and caused a traffic backup for several miles.

WTOL-TV reported a tractor-trailer collided with a maintenance vehicle Tuesday morning near Fremont, about 30 miles southeast of Toledo. There was no immediate word on any injuries, but the station reported that several air and ground ambulances were called to the scene.

A State Highway Patrol dispatcher said the crash was reported around 10:30 a.m.

The Ohio Turnpike Commission said the growing traffic jam spanned about four miles shortly before noon.
