Ants get Travis Walton

In addition to getting a new assistant coach recently in former Dookie and NBA vet Christian Laettner, the Mad Ants just picked up another point guard to make up for the NBA call-up of Walker Russell Jr.

Travis Walton, the 6-2 guard from Michigan State who broke Magic Johnson's school assists record, has joined the team, and will be available for the upcoming three road games.

Walton, who also has had stints in Switzerland and Germany, played briefly with the Dakota Wizards, where he averaged 4.8 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in 19.8 minutes.

What he may be asked to do, however, is show some of his defensive chops he earned at Michigan State. He was named to the All-Big Ten defensive team twice, and in 2009, was the league's defensive player of the year.

Former Notre Dame guard Tory Jackson will probably be the starting point guard, but Walton adds depth at that position.

Russell was recently called up to the Detroit Pistons. He was averaging nearly 20 points and 10 assists while with the Ants.
