CHEERS to Associated Churches Rising Stars program and St. Joseph United Methodist Church for their support of Fairfield Elementary School. The warm, caring, wonderful church members of St. Joseph UMC routinely volunteer, donate supplies and leave notes of encouragement. They have also hosted chili suppers for students and their families, carried in food for staff and collected clothing donations for kids in need. Many volunteer to tutor children. At Christmas, each student and staff member received a school pride T-shirt from the congregation. These giving church members lift our spirits with their support – helping us soar to success.

CHEERS to the man at the grocery who tracked me down and returned my dropped glove.
CHEERS to the lady who took time to reach an object in a store I was too short to get.
CHEERS to the cashier in the toy store who was trying to cheer up a very grouchy customer.
Wouldnt it be great if everyone took a minute or two to go out of their way to be helpful all year and not just at the holidays?

CHEERS to Road Sage Benjamin Lanka for his Dec. 3 column, Light the way: Headlamps add a level of safety. His advice was right on point – it is to make you more visible to other drivers and pedestrians, in bad weather and low-visibility conditions, that makes it vital to turn on your headlights. Vehicles of any size and color blend into the rain, fog, or snow, so turn on those headlights so that you can be seen.
CHERYL MATHEWS Fort Wayne
CHEERS to the person who found my set of keys on Interstate 469 the week of Dec. 12. My husband had laid them down on the trunk of his car, forgot them and proceeded to drive to work in his car. We figured they were lost forever. Two days later we received a phone call stating that they had been returned to the dealership because of the dealer medallion on the key ring. I just wanted the person to know that this act of kindness did not go unnoticed and I very much appreciated his taking the time to return the keys.
