Flowers bloom on crocheted headband

Recently, I have seen cute crocheted headbands with flowers in niche shops and online. Rather than pay more than $20 for a finished product or $6 for the pattern, I decided I could use some skills I already have and come up with my own pattern. I whipped these up in about an hour, so it’s a quick project.

What you need

•Yarn

•Crochet hook (I used size H)

•Velcro or a yarn needle

•Needle

•Thread

•Button (optional)

What you do for the band

Round 1: Chain 65-70 (You probably want to measure to your head. When measuring, you want it to be snug so it isn’t slipping off. And I’m a loose crocheter, so if you have more than 70, don’t worry.) Join to first Chain 1 with a slip stitch.

Rounds 2-7: Chain 2 (this counts as first DC). DC in each chain all the way around. SL ST to top of Chain 2 in previous row.

Tie off. (You can easily make it wider or thinner depending on what you would like to wear.)

For the smaller flower

Pattern available from the Crochet Geek on YouTube (http://bit.ly/crochetgeek).

Round 1: Chain 3. SL ST into 1st chain to form a ring.

Round 2: *Chain 3, SL ST through the chain loop. Complete 5 times from *, join at the base of the beginning stitch to join. (5 chain 3 loops total)

Round 3: *SL ST in to the next chain 3 loop. Chain 1, work 5 DC through the Chain 3, Chain 1, SL ST in the same Chain 3, complete 5 times total from * around. Join with the beginning stitch.

For the larger flower

Round 1: Chain 4. SL ST into 1st chain to form ring.

Round 2: 10 DC in ring. SL ST to 1st DC. (10 stitches)

Round 3: Chain 2. DC in same stitch. *1 DC in next stitch. 2 DC in next stitch. Repeat from * around. SL ST to top of 1st chain 2. (15 stitches)

Round 4: *Chain 4. Skip 2 stitches. SL ST into 3rd stitch. Repeat from * around. (Forms 5 chain 4 loops)

Round 5: *Chain 1. SL ST into first/next chain 4. Chain 2. 7 triple crochet into chain 4. Chain 2. SL ST into same chain 4. Repeat from * around.

Tie off.

At this point, you can either use your yarn needle to stitch the two flowers to the band, or my aunt suggested making flowers in all different colors and using Velcro to easily swap out the flowers to match your outfit.
