  • The Week Ahead
March + May = SummerAfter a month of summer (that we kept calling March, despite the fact it was looking less and less like March as the month went on), April moved in and returned us to reality.
  • The Week Ahead
Doing a 180Flooding has become an annual rite of spring around these parts. It seems like every year at least part of our area is dealing with floodwaters. This year things are very different.

This is January?

To say this has been an unusual January is an extreme understatement. So far, we’ve had only one day that failed to hit 30 degrees, and not one night has dropped into single digits.

Even odder: Friday, we were in the mid-50s during the afternoon – nearly hitting a record. Perhaps the oddest part of this winter has been the snowfall. We’ve actually already seen 14 inches of it. Keep in mind, the key word there is “fall.” In almost every case, the snow has melted almost immediately after hitting the ground. It’s been a truly unusual winter, but there is a lot of time left for it to get “normal.”

Weather wise: Do you think you have winter weather pegged? Well, in winter, few things are clear cut, so be sure to check out my article about the myths of winter in the Perspective section of today’s paper.
