It was just a case of the other team playing better.
Western Illinois got 21-points from hot-shooting Jack Houpt to claim a 75-65 win over IPFW on Saturday at Memorial Coliseum.
Houpt, a 6-foot-7 junior forward who came into the game with a 5.6 scoring average, hit 7 of 9 three-pointers to lead the Leathernecks (9-5, 4-2 Summit League). Three other Western Illinois players scored in double figures.
And while Frank Gaines had 30 points for IPFW (9-7, 3-4), he was the only player in double figures for the Mastodons.
IPFW was without its second-leading scorer, 6-10 Trey McCorkle, who was injured Thursday against IUPUI. McCorkle is still listed as day-to-day.
