Ants win in Gansey's home debut

It was difficult to tell who fed off the others' energy. Did the team feed off of the crowd's energy, or was it the other way around?

In any event, 3,480 souls made Memorial Coliseum louder than it's been all year during the Mad Ants games in Saturday's 107-98 Ants victory over Canton.

Beaten the night before in Canton, the Ants returned home with a new flair, if not a new coach in 26-year-old Steve Gansey, who replaced the released Joey Meyer. Meyer was let go late Thursday night after two and a half years of service and after a 5-10 start to the 2011-12 season.

The team seemed to play harder, and Gansey worked the sideline the way a starving vendor works his section of a ballpark. So maybe the players and the crowd played off the coach.

It was a night in which six Mad Ants players got into double figures, led by Darnell Lazare's 22 points, and 18 off the bench from Gilbert Brown.
