Stewart leads Rumble qualifying

Tony Stewart, bidding for a sweep of the two-day racing program, posted the fastest qualifying time for Saturday night’s midget portion of the 14th annual Rumble in Fort Wayne.

The three-time NASCAR champion lapped the 1/6-track at the Memorial Coliseum Expo Center in 7.830 seconds to continue his remarkable success here. He’s been the fastest qualifier each of his past 10 appearances since 2005 (he did not compete in 2009-10) and was bidding for his record-extending ninth Rumble in Fort Wayne feature victory late Saturday night.

Jon Stanbrough, Angola’s Derek Bischak, David Gough and Fort Wayne’s Cory Setser rounded out the top five in qualifying.
