Fisherman treated after Clear Lake boating accident

A northern Indiana fisherman was treated at an Angola hospital after a boating accident on Clear Lake, Indiana conservation officers said today.

Anthony R. Forte, 38, of Bristol was fishing in an anchored canoe Thursday afternoon when he leaned forward to get some equipment, conservation officers said in a statement.

The canoe began to rock from side to side in the choppy water, the statement said, and began to take on water.

Forte jumped out of the canoe, fearing it was going to tip, the statement said. It said he then tried to get back in the canoe, causing it to take on more water and sink.

Forte was able to get a life jacket and an additional flotation device and go to shore, the statement said. He was taken to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola and treated for hypothermia.
