Boucher, Smith setting the pace

3rd shutout of season in K's win at Dayton

Nick Boucher became the first goaltender in the CHL this season to get three shutouts, as he made 28 saves in the Komets' 4-0 victory over the Dayton Gems at Hara Arena on Friday night.

The Komets won for the 11th time in the last 14 games and improved their Turner Conference-leading record to 16-7-1.

Boucher leads the CHL in victories (14), goals-against average (2.26) and is second with a save percentage of .923.

Offensively, the Komets were paced by center Brett Smith, who had a goal and two assists in front of 2,313 fans. Smith has a point in five straight games and 21 of the last 23. He is now second in CHL scoring with 35 points, behind only Rapid City's Jesse Schultz's 41.

Right wing Bobby Chaumont had a goal and an assist for Fort Wayne, which is 4-1-0 against the Gems (11-11-4), who are coached by Fort Wayne-native Brian Gratz. Defenseman Jamie Milam and right wing Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock also scored for Fort Wayne, while left wing Artem Podshendyalov had two assists.

The Komets are off until Tuesday, when they play host to the league-worst Bloomington Blaze (7-15-2).
