KOKOMO — Indiana communities hoping to cash in on Super Bowl tourism are launching smartphone applications, decorating cards to welcome visitors and taking other steps to promote their attractions before the Feb. 5 game.
The Kokomo Tribune reports Kokomo is working on an app that includes pictures of local attractions and information on restaurants and lodging. Indianapolis and Columbus already have similar apps.
Greater Greenwood Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Christian Maslowski tells the Daily Journal in Franklin that communities are scheduling events themed around the game. They include a spelling bee in January, a 5K run in Franklin and 3,000 welcome cards created by students that will go into hotel rooms.
The areas are among 17 Super Celebration Sites chosen by the 2012 Indianapolis Super Bowl Host Committee.
