Kosciusko REMC issued this statement Wednesday evening:
WARSAW, Indiana (November 30, 2011) -- Kosciusko REMC reports that by 5:30 p.m. today it has reduced to about 2,500 the number of members without power as a result of Tuesday's snow storm. Crews will work through the night to continue the power restoration efforts that remain complicated by the heavy melting snow, which is causing tree limbs and power lines to snap back into place too fast resulting in more damage to lines and power poles.
Current estimates are that power will be restored to most members by late Thursday. Members who are still without power now are encouraged to seek alternative shelter arrangements for tonight.
Local crews are being assisted by service crews from Tipmont and Kankakee Valley REMCs. A third two-man crew from Kankakee Valley has joined the local restoration efforts.
Kosciusko REMC is a Touchstone Energy electric cooperative serving more than 17,000 members throughout Kosciusko County and into surrounding counties. For additional information see the KREMC web site at www.kremc.com, or visit us on Facebook and on Twitter@kosciuskoREMC.
