Serving everything from gluten-free baked goods to authentic Thai fare, two new restaurants have opened in the city.
Pembroke Bakery & Café is in the Auer Center for Arts & Culture at 300 E. Main St. This week, it will have a limited menu of baked goods and coffee, but sandwiches, salads and soups will be added soon. Hours for this week are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 247-7220.
Spice & Herb Thai Cuisine is at 8802 Coldwater Road, in Coldwater Centre at Wallen Road. Lunch hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The restaurant opens for dinner at 4 p.m. It closes at 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays and 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Sunday hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Its closed on Mondays. For information, call 489-3205.
‘Taste of the NFL’ dinner coming to Joseph Decuis
Enjoy a Taste of the NFL during a wine dinner Sunday at Joseph Decuis in Roanoke, which is part of a series to benefit the Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. Taste of the NFL is a non-profit organization that partners with football players and chefs to raise money for food banks.
The menu will feature Alaskan king crab, Indiana rabbit loin, Wagyu chuck roast and chocolate bête noire with smoked hazelnuts.
The event begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $120 (a portion of which is tax-deductible).

Executive chef Aaron Butts will be joined in the kitchen by chefs Greg Hardesty of Recess in Indianapolis and Dave Tallent of Restaurant Tallent in Bloomington. Theyre preparing the meals together at each restaurant.

Temple takes orders for corned beef lunches
Congregation Achduth Vesholom is taking orders for its popular Corned Beef on Rye fundraiser, which benefits temple programs.
Besides the sandwich, the box lunch includes coleslaw, pickle, brownie and beverage.
Prices are $10 a box for orders placed by Friday, $12 if ordered by Nov. 4, or $14 after that.

You can pick up the lunches between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at 5200 Old Mill Road. Or you can order at least 12 lunches by Nov. 4 and have them delivered for an additional $5.
Samples on tap for Easter Seals Arc benefit
Easter Seals Arcs annual Vino, Java & Jazz fundraiser will be Oct. 28 at Cerutis Summit Park II, 6601 Innovation Blvd.
Besides enjoying Cerutis fare, you also can taste samples from Calhoun Street Soups, Salads and Spirits; Casa Ristoranti Italiano; Catablu Grille; Cerulean Restaurant; Chappells Coral Grill; Coconutz; Granite City Food & Brewery; The Olive Twist; Starbucks; and Yum-Mees Bakery.
Auction items include tickets to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, an in-home four-course wine tasting from Cerulean, golf packages, in-home sushi party and Walt Disney World passes.

Come to gallery, learn to pick wine
Learn how to select holiday wines during a tasting workshop Oct. 27 at Continuum Art Gallery, 125 W. Wayne St.
Dan and Krista Stockman, owners of Cheers Wine Consultants, will offer tips and samples of vintages from Indiana, Italy and Chile, among other regions.

Dicky’s whips up beer dinner
Feast on crab cakes and smoked salmon during a Samuel Adams beer dinner Thursday at Dickys Wild Hare, 2910 Maplecrest Road.
The five-course dinner, which begins at 7 p.m., also will include ribs and dessert.
A representative from the Boston-based brewery will attend.

Autumn menu comes to TW Fable
Offering items as varied as pumpkin ravioli and butternut squash soup, TW Fable in Bluffton has unveiled a new menu for fall.
Other dishes include a sirloin pot pie, duck confit, honey-lime salmon, black and bleu rib-eye steak and parmesan-basil chicken. Prices range from $10 to $29.
The lunch menu features fish and chips, barbecue pulled pork and a margarita flatbread, with prices that range from $10 to $15.
New martinis include pumpkin, chocolate and caramel apple versions.

Brevin’s Downtown adds specials
Brevins Downtown, 200 S. Main St. in Churubusco, has added $4.95 gyros to the menu.
It also serves breakfast starting at 6 a.m. Fridays through Sundays.
And on Oct. 28, it will launch Friday Nite Live events from 8 to 11 p.m. Hubie Ashcroft will perform during the first one; there will be live music once a month.
Features will include dishes such as blackened salmon ($15), Cajun prime rib ($16), a 10-inch two-topping pizza ($10) and Cajun chicken Alfredo ($13).
