A former Huntington man who 12 years ago admitted he surgically removed the testicles from five men and stored them in glass jars while living in Huntington has been arrested in a similar case in Wetumpka, Ala.

Edward Bodkin, 68, was arrested Friday and charged with four counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department. He was being held Monday on $400,000 bond.

Sheriff’s officials said they confiscated pornographic materials from Bodkin’s Alabama home, along with devices used to perform castrations and photographs depicting human castration.

Bodkin’s arrest was first reported by The Wetumpka Herald newspaper.

Elmore County chief deputy Ricky Lowery said the materials were found in Bodkin’s house after a search warrant was obtained. He said officials didn’t know what Bodkin planned to do with the castration devices.

In 1999, Bodkin, then of Huntington, pleaded guilty to practicing medicine without a license and was sentenced to four years in prison. At the time, he admitted to removing the testicles of five adult men who all consented to the castration. Three of the procedures were videotaped, Bodkin said in court, explaining how he kept the testicles in jars filled with a preservative fluid.

Lowery said Elmore County officers learned about Bodkin after being contacted by an official with the Massachusetts Treatment Center for Sexually Dangerous Persons, who said that an inmate had received sexually explicit mail from Bodkin.

Officials said the pornographic materials were found throughout Bodkin’s home near Lake Jordan, about 30 miles north of Montgomery.

Bodkin could also face federal child pornography charges. Clayton Slay, of the Montgomery office of the U.S. Secret Service, said federal agents were assisting Elmore County deputies with the investigation.
