Former Northrop standout Eric Wedge could go through a second interview for the managers position with the Chicago Cubs, according to ESPNChicago.com.
Wedge, who managed the Cleveland Indians from 2003-09, interviewed the first time with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry in late August.
The Cubs are looking for a replacement for retired manager Lou Piniella and would like a replacement in place by Nov. 2. Also in the mix, according to the report, are interim manager Mike Quade, former Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez and Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg.
Torre mum on future plans
Joe Torre says hes waiting to announce whether hell return to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers next year.
Torre had previously said he would make the announcement around Labor Day. But he said before Wednesdays game against the San Diego Padres he is not yet ready to divulge it.

Injured relievers Damaso Marte (shoulder) and Alfredo Aceves (back) are not expected back in the New York Yankees bullpen this season. In other news, the Yankees will skip Phil Hughes next turn in the rotation this weekend at Texas. Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton played a light game of catch Wednesday. Hamilton bruised his ribs in Minnesota on Saturday. There is still no timetable for his return.
