Rechargeable spotlight recalled, poses burn risk

Innovage LLC of Foothill Ranch, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 1.4 million FIXIT One Million Candlepower Rechargeable Spotlights, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The spotlight's charging adapter can overcharge the battery, forcing it to rupture and leak battery acid, the safety commission said.

There have been 13 reports of events involving minor skin burns and acid burning holes in upholstery, clothing and carpeting.

The spotlights were sold from October 2003 to October 2009 at Walgreens, Rite Aid, Bealls, Tuesday Morning, Ace Hardware, Boscov's and Winn-Dixie stores.

The handheld spotlights, produced in China, are made of yellow plastic and have a black label that reads "FIXIT Tools UP TO 1,000,000 CANDLE POWER" or "FIXIT Rechargeable Spotlight."

Consumers should contact Innovage toll-free at 888-408-1140 for a full refund of the regular retail price. For purchases made above the regular retail price, additional refunds will be offered with valid receipts.

Instructions for returning the products are posted at www.spotlightrecall.org.
