Thorough beating for ’Caps

South Bend scored at least one run in all but two innings as the Silver Hawks blazed to a 12-5 Midwest League victory over the TinCaps on Wednesday at Coveleski Stadium.

The TinCaps (75-60 overall, 39-26 in the second half) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on consecutive singles from Danny Payne, Jeudy Valdez, Jason Hagerty and Nate Freiman, but the Silver Hawks (57-75, 27-37) bounced back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning then added four in the second.

But South Bend didn’t stop there.

The Hawks added a run in the third, two in the fourth, two in the sixth and one more in the eighth, leaving only the fifth and seventh innings in which they didn’t score. They didn’t need to come to the plate in the ninth.

Valdez had three of the TinCaps’ 13 hits, and Jonathan Galvez added a pair of hits, including a solo home run in the seventh inning. Edinson Rincon had a solo home run in the ninth.
