Interception return highlights third quarter

Cornerback Matt Ernest showcased some of his skills he had at his old position of wide receiver, intercepting a pass and returning it 56 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter of Thursday's game with Towson.

The Hoosiers increased their lead against the Tigers to 48-14 at the end of the third quarter.

It's the most points Indiana has scored in an opener since defeating Indiana State 55-7 in 2007.

Starting quarterback Ben Chappell and running back Darius Willis were replaced midway through the quarter.

Chappell completed 16 of 23 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. Willis rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Dusty Kiel came in at quarterback, getting the first shot in the competition for the backup spot with Edward Wright-Baker.
