Four Bowling Green pitchers – Merrill Kelly, Jason McEachern, Alex Koronis and Scott Shuman – combined to limit the playoff-bound TinCaps to three hits in a 4-1 victory in Kentucky.
Fort Wayne (38-25 second half, 74-59 overall) fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning and got hits only from Danny Payne and Wande Olabisi, who had two of them.
The TinCaps run came in the third inning, when Jeudy Valdezs sacrifice fly scored Griffin Benedict.
The Hot Rods (26-37 second half, 57-75) went up 3-1 in the bottom of the inning on Julio Cedenos double, which scored Brett Nommensen.
Kelly, who started for Bowling Green, went four innings and gave up two hits and one run, striking out two and walking three.
Koronis was the only other pitcher to allow a TinCaps hit, and the three relievers combined for five strikeouts and four walks.
Fort Waynes starting pitcher, Jose De Paula, went five innings, giving up four hits and three runs, two of which were earned, while striking out three and walking one. His relievers – Noah Mull, Jeff Ibarra and Stiven Osuna – combined to give up one run, while striking out three.
