Erba, Hess take titles at DeKalb Invitational

Warsaw’s Ashley Erba and Carroll’s Brad Hess took home individual titles at the DeKalb Cross Country Classic on Saturday.

Erba was first in 19:18.28 to Concordia’s Anna Reibs’ 19:29.51. Hess won the boys meet in 16:23.87, edging out Snider’s Mitch Dutton (16:27.82) and North Side’s Charlie Melton (16:31.90).

For the girls, Huntington North won the team title with 55 points, while Northridge was second with 87 and Carroll third with 88. Snider won the boys meet with 46 points, while Northridge was second with 75, and DeKalb third with 93.

Cross country

BI-COUNTY MEET: South Adams won the boys event, while Norwell captured the girls portion at Bluffton.

The Starfires boys had 29 points, while the Knights won the girls meet with 30 points.

South Adams’ Hannah Moore won the girls race in 20:27, while teammate Eric Isch won the boys meet at 16:36.

Football

LEBANON 29, LEO 28: The host Tigers won on a touchdown and two-point conversion with 30 seconds remaining.

Brayton Young scored from five yards out, then ran in the PAT for the one-point win. The Lions fell to 1-1.

Girls golf

ELKHART CENTRAL INVITATIONAL: Wawasee won the team title with 350 points, beating Fairfield’s 357.

Krista Zurcher led the Warriors with an 83, while Sathita Cheeranot added an 84.

Boys soccer

WARSAW 3, PENN 1: The No. 20 Tigers tamed the visiting Kingsmen with three goals in the second half.

Scott Smyth, Brody Reinholts and Nathan Kolbe had goals for the Tigers (4-0).

Girls soccer

HOMESTEAD 4, CANTERBURY 2: Kelsey Wendlandt scored three goals to lead the Spartans past the visiting Cavaliers.

Tied at 2, Wendlandt scored the final two goals of the match. Ashley Steiner also had a goal for Homestead, while Marlee Disher scored twice for Canterbury.

LUERS 8, BLACKHAWK CHRISTIAN 0: Kate Potchka and Mayson Whitman each scored two goals for the visiting Knights.

Haley Stronczek had two assists for Luers (4-2).

Volleyball

MANCHESTER INVITATIONAL: Lakewood Park won the tournament with three wins.

The Panthers beat Tippecanoe Valley 25-19, 25-23, Tri-Central 25-16, 23-25, 15-9 and Manchester 25-16, 24-26, 15-11.
