Unusual numbersSix. That’s the number of days we have already hit 50 degrees this year. Six times! Let’s put that in perspective. Last year (not an unusually cold winter), we hit 50 for the second time on Feb. 17.

Here we go again

If you woke up early Friday you might have thought that we had seen the last of the brutal summer heat. For a few minutes, we dropped into the upper 40s, and it was downright chilly.

Then during the afternoon, we were met with our second straight day of sunshine and comfort, so it would be a reasonable thought. Of course, you would have been wrong. Starting today, we are looking at another string of days (three for sure, maybe four) that will likely end in the 90s.

As August winds down, there is simply no sign of summer letting up just yet.

Weatherwise: As unusual as 90-degree days are in September, they are not unprecedented. Of September’s 30 dates, 26 have record highs of at least 90 degrees.
