If the TinCaps are going to make any sort of noise in the playoffs, they’ll need at least some of it to come from the middle of the order.
In what manager Jose Flores characterized as a playoff preview against Great Lakes, Wednesday, they didn’t get it.
All-Star catcher and erstwhile red-hot stick Jason Hagerty was missing in action in the 8-4 loss to the Loons, going 0-for-5 and striking out five times, three of them looking. Coupled with Jedd Gyorko (1-for-4) and Nate Freiman (1-for-4), the TinCaps were a combined 2-for-13 out of the three, four and five holes.
In a fitting end to the evening, Gyorko took a called third strike for the last out of the game.
