Verbatim: City of Auburn supports troops in Iraq

Statement issued Wednesday by the Dean V. Kruse Foundation Inc.:

Auburn residents truly showed their support for the American military with a banner stating “The City of Auburn Supports Our Troops” during the Military Activities week downtown. The activities were sponsored by the National Military History Center as a part of the promotion for the sculpture “Unconditional Surrender,” depicting the kiss between a WWII soldier and nurse.

Sgt. Scott Mabee of the US Army and former resident of Auburn, received the banner on Tuesday, August 10. He and his unit are currently stationed in Iraq, working with the Iraqi military to learn tactics and techniques to police their land. Mabee, originally from Fort Wayne, lived on the south side of Auburn for the past year and a half.

“I’m just so proud of them,” said Judy Mabee, Sgt. Mabee’s mother. “They are doing such wonderful work there, and they have sacrificed so much. All I can say is that I’m very proud of all of them.”

The National Military History Center would like to thank everyone for their continued support of our troops, and to thank the servicemen and women of the American military for their sacrifice.
