Injury update

Notre Dame safety Jamoris Slaughter was held out of practice Wednesday because of a groin injury.

Coach Brain Kelly said Slaughter was kept out for precautionary reasons.

"We don't want to get into a position where we are six, seven, eight days out and pull a hamstring and we're out for the first game," Kelly said. That just doesn't make any sense."

Left guard Chris Stewart was limited at practice for a second straight day with a neck injury, but Kelly again didn't sound too concerned that Stewart will miss significant time.

"He's got his helmet on," Kelly said. "The big fella is moving around. He will be fine."

Linebacker Steve Paskorz injured his knee in a non-contact situation, Kelly said. And Notre Dame is awaiting word on the senior.

Kelly said Dan Fox and David Posluszny are ready to play if they are needed if Paskorz's injury puts him in doubt for the opener like Anthony McDonald (knee) is.
