Rapist pleads guilty before trial

Two teens also admit ’09 assault in Riverhaven

– Scheduled to stand trial next week after being found competent by three mental health experts, a 22-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to raping a teen with mental disabilities a year ago.

William Otis Gresham pleaded guilty to rape and criminal confinement in the gang rape of a then-19-year-old woman last summer in Riverhaven.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Gresham will be sentenced to 15 years in prison in September.

Along with Gresham, Allen County prosecutors charged Joshua Saylor, 17, and Christopher Lynn Ramsey, 19, in the sexual assault.

Then woman has cerebral palsy and cannot walk without the aid of a walker. She also has severely diminished mental capacity, according to court documents.

Police believe Ramsey, Gresham, Saylor and an unnamed 13-year-old boy carried the woman into an area with tall weeds in the early hours of June 25.

The four took turns having sex with the woman and forced her to submit to various sex acts.

They left her naked in the weeds, and she dragged herself to a picnic table about 50 feet away.

In February, Saylor and Ramsey pleaded guilty to charges of rape and criminal deviate conduct. Under the terms of plea agreements, their sentences will be capped at 10 years in prison. They have yet to be sentenced.
