TinCaps let 3-run lead slip away

The West Michigan Whitecaps scored three runs in the sixth and another one in the seventh to rally past the TinCaps 6-5 on Thursday in Comstock Park, Mich.

The TinCaps (32-20 second half, 68-54 overall) led 5-2 before the Whitecaps (27-25, 53-68) scored the final four runs.

Jason Hagerty led Fort Wayne, which has won 19 of its last 26 games, with three hits and two RBI. Hagerty and Jedd Gyorko, who also had two RBI, each hit home runs.

Zach Samuels (3-0) picked up the win for West Michigan with three scoreless innings in relief. Allen Marona (0-1) was the losing pitcher after giving up two hits and a run in 1 1/3 innings. Matt Jackson, who relieved starter Mike Watt in the fourth, surrendered six hits and four runs, but only one was earned.

The TinCaps scored three times in the first and two more in the fifth to help build the 5-2 advantage.

Note: The TinCaps are making 2010 Midwest League Playoff tickets available for purchase at 10 a.m. Saturday in anticipation of the TinCaps qualifying for a playoff position.
