San Diego Padres infielder David Eckstein didnt make much noise Wednesday in his rehab start for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, going 0 for 4 and reaching only on an error in the first inning against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
Matt Lollis was the evenings real silencer, however.
The 6-foot-7 TinCaps righthander shackled West Michigan for 7 2/3 innings, giving up one run and five hits, and the TinCaps (32-19 second half, 68-53 overall) rode that and a couple of two-run innings to a 5-1 win over the Whitecaps (26-25, 52-68) at Comstock Park, Mich.
Lollis (3-1) struck out eight to lower his ERA to 1.93.
The TinCaps broke up a scoreless game in the fifth on Jason Hagertys single, Jedd Gyorkos RBI double and Daniel Meeleys RBI single.
They added two more in the seventh. Hagerty and Nate Freiman led off with walks, and, after Gyorko struck out, Meeley drove in Hagerty with his second RBI single.
Freiman promptly advanced to third on a passed ball, and, after Edinson Rincon walked, came home on Jonathan Galvez sacrifice fly.
The TinCaps scored one more in the top of the ninth. After Gyorko reached on a one-out walk, Meeley singled again to move him to second, Rincon flied out to center, and Galvez singled to right to chase home Gyorko.
Meeley (3 for 5, 2 RBI), Gyorko (2 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 run) and Freiman (2 for 4, 1 run) led the TinCaps 10-hit attack.
