Former Bishop Dwenger standout John Goodman did a little bit of everything for Notre Dame last season.

Goodman moved around to different spots as a receiver, played a little quarterback in the wildcat and was a punt returner.

Goodman is in the mix with Armando Allen to return punts again this season, but he will have a more stable role in the offense.

"He will be on the perimeter, he's not an inside guy," coach Brian Kelly said. "He will be on the edge of our offensive structure. He's in a competitive situation. We can win with John Goodman. To be a championship player, he's got to be more consistent, and he knows that. He's got to finish off plays. We can win with Goody, and he will stay at that outside position."
