Shooter's Comments: This was the first cross-country meet of the year for me and I decided to leave my 70-200mm lens in the bag. I've never shot cross country with a wide lens, so I thought I would give it a try. Shooting in close around 24mm lens really gives a great dynamic and with cross country I knew I could get close enough to make it work. After I had some decent shots in the can during the girls race I decided to experiment with the start of the boys race. After slowing my shutter down I got a pretty sweet motion shot of a group of runners after the start. A little panning really added a sense of the sport on this one.

Editor's Note: Swikar also made a nice photo gallery from this event. It was a brave choice to use a lens you would not normally use for sports. Sometimes switching lenses can be enough to give you an entirely new perspective. The slightly longer lens for the panning shot helps add to a sense of motion.
