Shooter's Comments: Today's assignment allowed me to be outside on a beautiful day and learn something about nature. I covered the Metea County Park Monarch Butterfly Family Count. We found one egg and five caterpillars on the fifty milkweed plants we checked. Nature isn't always that dependable. Often you go out looking for something in particular and don't see it. Today was different. The only difficulty I had was showing the caterpillar and children searching the plants in one shot.
With the the children looking at one of the caterpillars they were able to take back to the nature center because it was getting close to the chrysalis stage, I used fill flash since they had the sun behind them. The close-up of the caterpillar was shot with the macro mode on my Olympus E-Pl1.

Editor's Note: Sometimes you have an idea for a photo, and it doesn't pan out. Cathie came back, not just with one great image, but enough for a photo gallery. The photos are all filled with emotion and beauty.
