Lake County pitcher Vidal Nuno was tough. But the TinCaps quartet of Mike Watt, Jon Berger, Matt Jackson and Miles Mikolas were just a bit more effective.
The TinCaps edged the Captains 3-2. The four gave up seven hits. The only Lake County runs came on a two-run home run by Chris Kersten off Jackson in the sixth. Jackson followed that with two scoreless innings to get the victory. He was aided by a three-run home run by Nate Freiman in the bottom of the sixth.
"They executed, from the start. From Watt going four innings, he threw the ball well, he threw strikes. Berger came in and gave us a nice one inning of work. Matt gave us three good innings, he left one pitch down the middle, but everything else was away. He was hitting spots and worked ahead. And then Mikolas came in and did what he's been doing all year."
Fort Wayne pitchers combined to strike out nine batters. Mikolas pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two for his fifth save.
Nuno gave up the home run to Freiman, along with seven hits in 5 2/3 innings for the loss.
