Freshmen impact

While it is still too early to call, as Notre Dame starts football practice today, coach Brian Kelly did point to two freshmen who didn't participate in spring drills as having a chance to earn playing time this season.

"(Receiver) Bennett Jackson has impressed in terms of his workouts," Kelly said. "(Receiver) Austin Collinsworth has been impressive in his workouts. Certainly, the quarterbacks (Andrew Hendrix, Luke Massa and Tommy Rees) will be in the mix in some fashion.

"Other than that, we are in a developmental kind of mode with the offensive linemen and the defensive linemen. A couple of skill guys, I wouldn't be surprised to see either one of those guys, Jackson Collinsworth, in the mix to get on the bus."
