TinCaps roll to win over Lansing

The TinCaps pounded out 17 hits in an 11-5 road win over the Lansing Lugnuts on Thursday.

Fort Wayne (23-16 second half; 59-50 overall) entered the seventh inning tied but finished the frame with an 11-5 advantage after scoring seven runs and Lansing getting one in the bottom of the inning.

Jedd Gyorko led the TinCaps with four hits and three runs scored, and Jeudy Valdez went 3 for 4 and knocked in two runs. Jonathan Galvez had three RBI, and Danny Payne had a solo home run. Griffin Benedict added two RBI.

The TinCaps scored two in the second inning and single runs in the fourth and fifth.

Jeff Ibarra (1-1) picked up his first win of the season in relief of starter Pedro Hernandez. Ibarra went two innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs and struck out four. Hernandez gave up five hits and three earned runs in five innings of work.

Jon Berger gave up two hits and struck out two in the last two innings.

Lugnuts starter Matt Fields gave up seven hits and four earned runs, and losing pitcher Brian Slover (3-5) surrendered four hits and three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Lansing fell to 20-19 and 56-52 with the loss.
