Unusual numbersSix. That’s the number of days we have already hit 50 degrees this year. Six times! Let’s put that in perspective. Last year (not an unusually cold winter), we hit 50 for the second time on Feb. 17.

A snowy stretchFor the first two weeks of the month, snow lovers were lamenting our weather and people who hate the cold were basking in the unusual warmth. That seems like a long time ago now.

Goodbye, July

I haven’t talked to many people who are going to miss this July. Of course, the main reason for that is the heat. The month ended with 14 90-degree days and a whopping average high of more than 88 degrees.

That’s more than 10 degrees above normal.

Rainfall has been another sore point for many people. In Fort Wayne, we ended the month with about 2 1/2 inches, which is about an inch below normal.

Meanwhile, I talked to some farmers the other day, and groups both north and south of the city were complaining about too much rain.

All in all, not the best month of weather we’ve ever had.

Weather wise: For many, the phrase “the dog days of summer” means August.

So we aren’t necessarily out of the woods just yet. There is plenty of summer left.
