Tough loss for TinCaps

Nick Schumacher entered Wednesday tied for the Midwest League lead in saves with 21.

He was one strike away from No. 22. But light-hitting Ender Inciarte hit a two-run home run to right, leading South Bend to a 4-3 victory.

It's the fifth blown save of the season for Schumacher.

After the game, Schumacher said the costly pitches came to the first batter of the game, Tyson Van Winkle. Schumacher walked Van Winkle, setting up the rest of the inning that eventually led to the end of a five-game win streak.

"He just needs to be more aggressive (with the leadoff hitter)," TinCaps manager Jose Flores said. "Sometimes I believe he tries to pitch around the first guy. The first guy has got on quite often here lately, but I think it's just a matter of him going out there and attacking the zone.

"I'd rather we'd lose by a hit like we did today as opposed to walking people."
