Unusual numbersSix. That’s the number of days we have already hit 50 degrees this year. Six times! Let’s put that in perspective. Last year (not an unusually cold winter), we hit 50 for the second time on Feb. 17.

A snowy stretchFor the first two weeks of the month, snow lovers were lamenting our weather and people who hate the cold were basking in the unusual warmth. That seems like a long time ago now.

Finally, a break

In a month full of heat, it’s nice to finally get some relief. Coming into Sunday, only three days this month have failed to reach 85 degrees, and only one fell short of 80 degrees.

All signs point toward the return of heat later in the week, so enjoy the next couple of days. If you are really in need of a break from the heat, you might have to wait awhile, because the normal high doesn’t return to the upper 70s until the last day of August.

Weather wise: The last time we had three straight days that fell short of 80 was June 6 to 8, and the last five-day stretch of no 80s was May 19 to 23.
