Rocker stopped with pot rolling through DeKalb

Michaels

He’s faced down Donald Trump in the boardroom, taken a Penthouse Pet as his “rock of love” and even hit the road for a lengthy tour mere months after surviving a massive brain hemorrhage that put him in intensive care.

But that tour was momentarily interrupted Wednesday when glam-metal icon Bret Michaels had a run-in with DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies, who found drugs on two of his tour buses.

The buses were pulled over about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday going north on Interstate 69 at mile marker 137, just south of Ashley. Michaels’ “Roses & Thorns” tour buses were en route from Dallas to a show in Michigan on Thursday.

Michaels, who first gained fame as frontman for the band Poison in the 1980s, was on one of the buses. Drug dogs found marijuana on both buses, according to police.

No arrests were made, but information is being forwarded to the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office, police said. Deputies found harder drugs on the bus Michaels was not on, though police did not provide specifics. Deputies also would not say why the buses were originally stopped.

There was no response to an e-mail sent to Michaels’ media handlers Thursday.

Michaels, 47, has carved out a career in reality television to go along with his rock exploits. His dating show on VH1, “Rock of Love,” lasted three seasons. In the 2009 season, he picked Taya Parker, who had posed for Penthouse magazine, as his new girlfriend.

In recent interviews, though, Michaels said he’s reconciling with the mother of his two children.

In April, Michaels suffered a brain hemorrhage that threatened his life. The condition cast into doubt his appearance on the finale of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” a show on which contestants vie for charity for the chance to be hired by Trump.

Michaels appeared on the live finale a month after his brain hemorrhage and was declared the winner. He gave his $250,000 winnings to the American Diabetes Association; Michaels is a diabetic.

Michaels’ new reality television show on VH1 is called “Bret Michaels: Life as I Know It.” He’s touring in support of his new album, “Custom Built.”
