NAIA launches eligibility website

The NAIA has launched a website, www.playnaia.org, as part of its new eligibility center.

Beginning in September, the site will assist in determining eligibility for first-time NAIA student-athletes, and it will offer registrations materials for the 2011-12 school year. The site is live for viewing now.

“NAIA colleges and universities award $450 million in financial aid to 60,000 student-athletes every year,” John Leavens, NAIA senior vice president for membership services, said in a news release. “Our institutions offer great opportunities to students interested in getting a college education with that small-college personal touch, and a chance to continue their athletic careers with a shot at one of our 23 national championships.”

On the new site, prospective students can learn about NAIA schools and sports, and find useful links.

Customizable profiles, in which users will designate schools of interest, academic programs of interest and activities of interest, will provide connections with college coaches and admissions officers.

Every student seeking to compete in NAIA sports must be registered with the eligibility center. Academic requirements for high school students in the NAIA have not changed. The only difference is that initial eligibility will first be determined through the eligibility center.
